What's nearby?
Two prominent cultural/historical assets in Okayama city, Okayama Castle (岡山城) and Korakuen (後楽園), are accessible via the city's electric tramway. Okayama ekimae station is connected to the train station via underpass (on the East Exit).
From Okayama ekimae station (岡山駅前), board the tram on Higashiyama line (東山線) and alight at Jo-shita station (城下駅). From here, it takes 7 mins walk to reach Okayama Castle. A trip to Okayama Castle is not complete without exploring Korakuen, a beautifully landscaped traditional Japanese style garden, located in the vicinity.
Fee (between Okayama ekimae and Jo-shita) = 100 yen
Fee for 1 day free pass = 400 yen

(2) Sun Station Terrace Okayama さんすて岡山 & Ichiban-gai 一番街
One thing that caught me by surprise was that Okayama city was a bustling and lively place; but less crowded than Hiroshima city in comparison. Sun Station Terrace is seamlessly connected to the train station, comprised of an extensive range of shops (such as ABC Mart and GU) and restaurants. Apart from underpasses connected to tram station and nearby shopping malls, Ichiban gai is an underground city, with street names lined with shops, cafes (such as Starbucks) and restaurants.
